Mixed metals: Mixed metals include aluminum and tin. The most common types of these materials are beverage cans (aluminum), food cans (tin) and pet food cans (tin). For the health and safety of the people who have to work around these materials and to discourage attracting critters to the bins, please rinse out cans before putting them in the bin Corrugated cardboard: Corrugated cardboard is fairly easy to identify. It is made up of three layers, two thin smooth outer layers separated by a wavy layer in between. If in question, simply try and pull the layers apart at a corner. You should be able to see the wavy layer in the middle. Boxes and other packaging materials are the most common uses of corrugated cardboard Mixed paper: is the most complex. There are several paper products in use. FCRI accepts some, but not all, paper products as mixed paper. The most common mistake is to include paperboard (fiberboard, boxboard) in your load. Paperboard is not acceptable mixed paper. Paperboard can be identified by its wax coating, multiple colors, and relatively thin structure. Paperboard is used primarily as food and beverage packaging. The list of mixed papers that we do accept is long and varied. We accept: Copy paper, printer paper, office paper, junk mail, envelopes (with or without address windows), file folder, sticky notes, newspaper, phone books, and magazines. At each drop off location is a sign similar to this one:
